A lovely place to stay. Great food, friendly staff, great coal fire and our room was cosy and warm. The food was fantastic and good value. It's in a great spot for exploring the Ullswater area.

the originality of the place, odd steps everywhere, mind your head beams everywhere, big old door on our room, the food is great, and the staff very welcoming!

So sorry about heating overnight - an oversight on our part - the heating is normally put on constant in cold weather - clearly forgotten this time! and we regret this has happened during your stay. We have acted upon this immediately and changed the timer to being permanently available through the night. The friendly owners and staff. Very helpful without being obtrusive
Dislikes:
The beer called ELBOW. Really quite nasty! Maybe it's an aquired taste, I like my real ales, living in the blackcountry we have our fair share of micro breweries but this bitter was very sour, yuk.

we stayed for 4 nights and eat there twice nothing was to much trouble for the staff and the rooms were spotless with new carpets throughout and well heated with clean towels every day.The food was very good both morning and night and we managed to get a table for dinner even though the dinning room was full every night and it was well priced.We went up to Lowther for the world trail which was a wash out so to get back to the inn with its log fire and warm welcome was great and we will be back. Read less

We stayed at the Queens Head as members of my party weed taking part in Race the Sun. We arrived slightly earlier than our checking in time but this was not a problem as the rooms were ready. We had lunch on arrival and an evening meal on both nights of our stay and would recommend you to eat these as the food was excellent and good value for money. We had two young children within the party and they were catered for well as well as having things to keep them occupied eg nintendo WIi. Read less
